144-71

Postby leka » 2011-08-12 10:45

Hello!

Unfortunately my swedish is not that good that I would write it, sorry...
I do read/understand it quite well though...

Year 2008 I found a nice 144 from this forum's Annonstorg and immediately saw that this is my car.
So I called the owner and on the same day made a trip to Stockholm.
The next morning I arrived to Stockholm and the owner came to pick me up with this Volvo.
It was even better than I thought. I bought it and brought it here to Finland where I live.

Here are some photos (which some of you took I heard from the owner) of the car in original condition.

Drove the car to the middle of Finland with no problems. Car was and is like new except the dents it had. I had to change the doors and front part but othervise it didn't need any welding as there was no rust anywhere.
I had to repaint it because of the dents / doors were changed.

Here are the pictures after and before the painting job:

Here it is finally back together:

This car feels like new and is wonderful to drive.
I have now driven it 20000km with absolutely no problems.
I have had 140-series Volvo as a daily use car for 23 years now and this one is the fourth one. Allways liked the model and the thing that it works and works. Rust is the worst thing with these cars but now I don't have that problem anymore.

I've gathered a lot of special parts over the years which I will put to this car some day...
e.g. Jaeger- rally gauges, power steering, m410 gearbox...
My previous 144 had megasquirt injection + m46 and I miss that power it had but this one is maybe too good to be changed from original.

I wanted to show you this because it was here where I found my pearl.
Thank you 140-klubben!!

Special thanks to the person who took the photos and put announcement to Annonstorg for me to see it!

Any comments appreciated!

Leka!

Welcome to the forum. I hope you're planning to stay.
It seems that this car is taken care of in a proper way and I'm glad that you've been treating it so seriously.
It's not often I can say that it's for the best with an export. (!!!) Well Finland isn't that far away, so...

Your 144 looks great on those 5,5 inch rims and after even more detailing you'd sure have a winner.
I don't know how the aftermarket looks like in Finland, but on the other hand I'm sure our swedish companies will be able to help, in any matter.

Take care and Stay in tune!

Thanks for the kind words!

I have and will stay in this forum as I think I know too much about these cars...

Export in this case was good as I am a 140-series freak. :)
I guess the previous owner would not have sold it to bad place as the car had been a family member.
Aftermarket in Finland is quite quiet in 140 Volvos but there are some nice people around and I know the swedish companies which offer great help - and of course this forum.

Sharp eyes you have as you noticed the kpz 5,5 inch rims there. I searched for five years to find them here and those weren't cheap...

I changed roller bearings to heater fan which is the only thing I have had to do in this car techincally.
I have already pimped my car because I changed -67 window wiper arms (cromed) and window handles (nicer looking). :)

Nice forum you got here, there ain't many 140-series Volvos left in Finland.
I think the 140-series is totally underrated here in Finland.
More Amazon, 240 and other enthusiast here, how is it in Sweden?
Has 140 Volvos disappeared like they have here?

By the way, what do you mean about more detailing?

Well, that's just a figure of speech. But I can spot a small crack in your right parkinglight... ;-) and the rubber(gasket) behind it seems a bit tired too.
Then you mentioned all the goodies you've been collecting: "Jaeger- rally gauges, power steering, m410 gearbox..." That's detailing, for me anyhow.
By hanging around on this forum you'll be able to get in touch with a bunch of volvo-fanatics around the northern hemisphere. If not global...

Ive got a call from the lady that did own this car before. She asked me to start it up and get it on the road again.
Her parents made all the dents in the city garage and i know why, you too if you saw the garage...
I think there is some pictures and a story about the car in a old 140-bladet.
Nice job on the car and I think the old owner would be happy to se some pictures of the car now.

Very interesting!
So you went there and started the car, any problems getting it back on the road?
I didn't see the garage, I guess it wasn't big enough for this car?

I think there is some pictures and a story about the car in a old 140-bladet.

This would be _very_ nice to see!!
It would be great to get some more information of this car's history!

Anyone remember which 140-bladet?
Where could I get it?

Great to see!

It was me who took the photos of the car and helped the seller to get the ad on internet. We met at the garage, but to be able to take better photos, I drove it - with the seller as a passenger - to Djurgården, a small island in Stockholm relatively close to where she lived. I don't remember whether the garage was very small, but it might have been. I was also interested in the car, especially since I do like the darkblue color. But I already had enough with cars and projects so I decided not to buy it.

It is correct as you write, that the car was like a family member for her, and I remember after you had bought it that the seller called me and that she was happy that someone who was interested in 140's had bought it.

Take good care of it! :)

Quick update.
133400km on the car, no problems at all.
Not much has happened only happy kilometers...
Except one crash by the neigbour who almost destroyed two doors, fortunately they were able to fix them...

Only parts I have had to replace are
- whole exhaust
- front break pads (because I couldn't stand the squeek sound :))
- basic set of ignition parts

Some non original mods done:
- Lesjö springs (-30mm)
- 164 toned windows (ongoing)

Mods to come:
- 164 lists under the windows on doors
- New B20 with turbo

Hope I finally have the time to put all the stuff I have gathered to the car.
Been a familyman for 6 years and all spare time is lost. :)

I have been lurking here now and then.

I think that in Finland there is less and less interest on these cars, but maybe because good ones are rare.

One day it would be nice to come to some meeting over there and see some real 140-fanatics 'cause I'm coming more and more the only one in this country. :)

Or are they fading out in there also?

By the way, 8,1 litre/100km my record in highway whit this B20A and M40, quite impressive considering the age and stromberg and aerodynamics. :)

This is the best car I've ever own and I will treat it such.
